  • I had forgotten I wrote a little something in 2007 about where to sell and buy your art online. I guess I should update for the sites I currently use.

Zazzle – Still a very good place to upload and sell your art without any upfront costs. Lots of options from stickers, tees, bandanas, prints, gift bags and more. They have online options for customers to get some cards in E-format. You make a sale but a bit less than the physical cards.

Threadless – Free to upload your art to sell on various things from tees to socks and prints. They have contests too for those who like to design. You can win some good money there. I haven’t personally won any of the contests but some of the winning designs are impressive.

OpenPrints – I don’t hear much talk about them, and I haven’t made any sales from there but they are a free site mostly for selling prints. Would be nice if you want to buy prints affordably to sell yourself.

Imagekind – You can sell your art on prints, framed art, canvas and greeting cards. Free to set up.

Fine Art America / Pixels – Free to join at the basic level. Limited to about 10 to 20 free listings. Prints, canvases, greeting cards and more to add your art to.

Greeting Card Universe – Free to join, no upfront fees. Customers send requests to site about what they want in a greeting card. It gets listed on the forum for members to see. If you want to make a design for the idea, you create it to place in your shop then add the link on the forum post, the customer gets to pick which one(s) they like and the site owners let you know if you were picked or not. Meanwhile, any card designs you make that are approved can be added to your own individual card store. You can also make custom items if someone contacts you directly. Payment is every 3 to 4 months if you make $25 or more. Minimum earned per card is usually around 10 cents a sale.

Redbubble – Free to join. No limit on designs. Lots of options with stickers, tees and more.

Avery – The company most recognize as making printable sheets for your printers, they have an online shop to buy your art. I took part in a promo for 10 huge stickers (6 inches I think) and they came out BEAUTIFULLY! So if you need some good custom printing, this is your place.

I have no affiliate links for these sites unless you want to visit my personal pages to buy my art. I’d be ever so grateful. 🙂 https://linktr.ee/elledeegee

  • I had heard about Qoop but never been there or done that. Now that I look around, it’s not a bad site. I might just buy a few things from it myself. I like the style of the keychains which makes me think of so many possibilities. 😀

  • I’m the kind of internet user who makes really different searches like “Japanese Scrapbooking” on Google to see what comes up. My main reason behind this seemingly odd “Asian” oriented search online was to find freebees like images and pictures they give away for use by visitors who patronize the site.

While searching on this particular subject of scrapbooking from Japan, I found a neat site called “Spoonflower.” They are a company out of North Carolina and  currently in beta. They are what you might call a “diy” online fabric shop. So instead of going to say a box store and buying someone’s random fabric design, you can upload your own designs and have them randomized so that it creates a neat design. You could even just do a single repeat so it shows up enough per yard to make a doll design or puppet.

At the moment they do not let members sell to others for profit but on their site they do state they hope to allow that in the future. You can even get a swatch of fabric with your design to see how it would work for about $5.  I’ve already added a few designs.

Check it out. It’s a neat site and I’ve already found some really nice designs by other people.

  • Hugs!!!
    Hugs!!!

It’s not often I read an email that tugs at my heartstrings, but today I received an email that made me feel elated and brought a glint of tears to my eyes. It made me realize how much art is not just something you make but something you share.

I thank them for writing me and letting me know that my artwork has helped them in a personal way. I think if more artists learned how people were affected positively by their artworks, it would help remind them why they do art.

Some artists might do art just for the money and nothing else but you have to have heart in your work for it to really touch people and to make it believable. Anyone can draw, but a real artist can draw you in. I’ve seen many artists who’s hearts come out in every piece they paint or draw. Some examples of artists I adore and  find have so much love and heart in their works are:  James Guerney (author of the Dinotopia series) and Steve Hanks (watercolor artist.)

Artwork is honest. It comes from within and spreads indiscriminately to the outside world. The public either loves it or they don’t. Everyone has their own personal style or artist they find “speaks” just to them. It’s not just a matter of taste but of feeling and emotion.

Anyway… This email made me realize that my art isn’t only for me but for others. Once I let my “art” loose upon the world, it will find it’s way toddling into many homes. Some will take it in and others will shoo it away to the next potential “home.” I will always own it and love it but others will own it and love it aswell.

  • I just made my order Wednesday (I think it was) for the Kodak Gallery and I already got them today! I was surprised and amazed that using the USPS is faster (and much cheaper) than UPS. 😛

Other than that… here’s a comparison of all the stickers I’ve bought from three different sites:

    Snapfish:
1 sheet of 20 customizable stickers. They have borders so they don’t stick to the other stickers around them. The paper is nice and shiny.

    Zazzle:
1 Sheets of 20 stickers. These are customizable too but I choose one of my simple designs just for an example. These are round and separated by some space on the page so they aren’t sticking together. These are nice and shiny.

    Kodak Gallery:
2 sheets per order; 30 total stickers of one design. These are right next to each other, square stickers, the full bleed kind and from the Martha Stewart Collection. I didn’t get the bordered ones or I’d have to choose between holiday or baby type designs as a border. I bought the full bleed ones and they’re nice and shiny. My only complaint is they didn’t put “do not bend” on the outside so the mailman stuck it in my apt box which is big but not that big. They weren’t bent up badly so I don’t have an issue beyond them not using a “do not bend” stamp on the envelope. Everyone else puts that on their packages

Overall, the sticker quality on all three sites is great. I’d have liked to have a choice between the stickers they do have (typical sticker paper) and maybe either a decal version or a see thru seal for envelopes kind of version.
