  • I had forgotten I wrote a little something in 2007 about where to sell and buy your art online. Updated to express any changes in sites I currently sell on or use to print my art.

Zazzle – Still a very good place to upload and sell your art without any upfront costs. Lots of options from stickers, tees, bandanas, prints, gift bags and more. They have online options for customers to get some cards in E-format. You make a sale but a bit less than the physical cards.

Threadless – Free to upload your art to sell on various things from tees to socks and prints. They have contests too for those who like to design. You can win some good money there. I haven’t personally won any of the contests but some of the winning designs are impressive.

TeePublic – Free to upload your art to sell on tees, stickers, buttons, magnets and more.

Fine Art America / Pixels – Free to join at the basic level. Limited to about 10 to 20 free listings. Prints, canvases, greeting cards and more to add your art to.

Greeting Card Universe – Free to join, no upfront fees. Customers send requests to site about what they want in a greeting card. It gets listed on the forum for members to see. If you want to make a design for the idea, you create it to place in your shop then add the link on the forum post, the customer gets to pick which one(s) they like and the site owners let you know if you were picked or not. Meanwhile, any card designs you make that are approved can be added to your own individual card store. You can also make custom items if someone contacts you directly. Payment is every 3 to 4 months if you make $50 or more. Minimum earned per card is usually around 10 cents a sale.

Redbubble – No limit on designs. Lots of options with stickers, tees and more. There may be some tiers that are fee based currently.

Avery – The company most recognize as making printable sheets for your printers, they have an online shop to buy your art. I took part in a promo for 10 huge stickers (6 inches I think) and they came out BEAUTIFULLY! So if you need some good custom printing, this is your place.

I have no affiliate links for these sites unless you want to visit my personal pages to buy my art. I’d be ever so grateful. 🙂 https://linktr.ee/elledeegee

    Thanks for reading.

  • Hugs!!!
    Hugs!!!

It’s not often I read an email that tugs at my heartstrings, but today I received an email that made me feel elated and brought a glint of tears to my eyes. It made me realize how much art is not just something you make but something you share.

I thank them for writing me and letting me know that my artwork has helped them in a personal way. I think if more artists learned how people were affected positively by their artworks, it would help remind them why they do art.

Some artists might do art just for the money and nothing else but you have to have heart in your work for it to really touch people and to make it believable. Anyone can draw, but a real artist can draw you in. I’ve seen many artists who’s hearts come out in every piece they paint or draw. Some examples of artists I adore and  find have so much love and heart in their works are:  James Guerney (author of the Dinotopia series) and Steve Hanks (watercolor artist.)

Artwork is honest. It comes from within and spreads indiscriminately to the outside world. The public either loves it or they don’t. Everyone has their own personal style or artist they find “speaks” just to them. It’s not just a matter of taste but of feeling and emotion.

Anyway… This email made me realize that my art isn’t only for me but for others. Once I let my “art” loose upon the world, it will find it’s way toddling into many homes. Some will take it in and others will shoo it away to the next potential “home.” I will always own it and love it but others will own it and love it aswell.

  • I just made my order Wednesday (I think it was) for the Kodak Gallery and I already got them today! I was surprised and amazed that using the USPS is faster (and much cheaper) than UPS. 😛

Other than that… here’s a comparison of all the stickers I’ve bought from three different sites:

    Snapfish:
1 sheet of 20 customizable stickers. They have borders so they don’t stick to the other stickers around them. The paper is nice and shiny.

    Zazzle:
1 Sheets of 20 stickers. These are customizable too but I choose one of my simple designs just for an example. These are round and separated by some space on the page so they aren’t sticking together. These are nice and shiny.

    Kodak Gallery:
2 sheets per order; 30 total stickers of one design. These are right next to each other, square stickers, the full bleed kind and from the Martha Stewart Collection. I didn’t get the bordered ones or I’d have to choose between holiday or baby type designs as a border. I bought the full bleed ones and they’re nice and shiny. My only complaint is they didn’t put “do not bend” on the outside so the mailman stuck it in my apt box which is big but not that big. They weren’t bent up badly so I don’t have an issue beyond them not using a “do not bend” stamp on the envelope. Everyone else puts that on their packages

Overall, the sticker quality on all three sites is great. I’d have liked to have a choice between the stickers they do have (typical sticker paper) and maybe either a decal version or a see thru seal for envelopes kind of version.

  • This is a limited time offer for fans of Farscape. Get it while it lasts!
  • If you’re an amateur photographer and like buying prints online, here’s some news about Kodak Gallery‘s website update. I was sent an email from them recently that any current member with less than 2 GBs of space used will have to pay a fee or atleast buy one item per year costing $4.99 or more to keep their account current and active. With the new policy on Kodak, I finally decided to buy something: photo stickers. When I get them I’ll let you know how they look. I have to admit though, their buying process is the easiest I’ve tried and their shipping costs are minimal compared to other sites I buy from.

Kodak’s policy change is not much different than the policies of similar sites such as Snapfish. The only difference between the two is that Snapfish doesn’t give you a dollar amount you have to spend to keep your account active. Their site policies pretty much state: “buy one thing a year to keep your account active” without specifying an amount. Still,  regardless of what you buy at Snapfish, you’ll end up spending atleast $5 dollars but it’s all worth it.

I’ve bought many things from Snapfish and loved the quality, especially their postcards. Everything I print as a postcard has come out looking professional as if it were from a real store. I don’t know what kind of paper or printing processes they use (maybe I should read their site more closely 😛 ) but when I think of all the places I’ve bought from online, Snapfish is the best for postcards.

I’ve been a member of KodakGallery for some time but I always forget about their site. If I don’t hear much from a site in the way of ads and emails, I forget about it.  Snapfish, Shutterfly and Zazzle constantly send me things. They don’t spam but they send alot of emails heralding sales, new items available and contests which keeps members informed and aware of their site. I think Kodak Gallery could take a tip from these other sites and go the way of the email newsletter to let current and possible new members aware of their presence online.

Photoworks is another great site if you want to buy prints. So far I’ve only bought a keychain of my artwork but the quality was beyond anything I could have imagined. It was one of those thick plastic ones that’s square but it was so pretty and perfect I couldn’t part with it. 😀 One of the owners or admins of the site recently sent me an email (guess my blog IS getting read by someone out side my group 😀 ) and told me they’re having a 20% off Photobooks sale. Use coupon code: DOWBOOK20 before March 20th, 2009.

That’s it for the moment… I’ll revise if I see something new.

  • This is a very cool link a friend of mine posted to her Facebook account. I’ll go ahead and post the link to “sketch and paint” although at the moment the server seems to be down.

It’s a very cool app that allows you to both draw, color, save and print the image you drew.

Here are two samples of art I made on the app:

I think for my first attempts, these aren’t half bad. I showed the site to another friend and he said it reminded him of Sumi-e ink painting. I also think with the coloring one it reminds me of those “Oekaki” drawings you see on some anime and Japanese related art sites.

When the server’s back up for the site, let me know what you think. 😀

The site was created by a young man in Sweden named Tomas Eriksson. I hope his site isn’t down because too many people are visiting. 😦
