  • I had forgotten I wrote a little something in 2007 about where to sell and buy your art online. Updated to express any changes in sites I currently sell on or use to print my art.

Zazzle – Still a very good place to upload and sell your art without any upfront costs. Lots of options from stickers, tees, bandanas, prints, gift bags and more. They have online options for customers to get some cards in E-format. You make a sale but a bit less than the physical cards.

Threadless – Free to upload your art to sell on various things from tees to socks and prints. They have contests too for those who like to design. You can win some good money there. I haven’t personally won any of the contests but some of the winning designs are impressive.

TeePublic – Free to upload your art to sell on tees, stickers, buttons, magnets and more.

Fine Art America / Pixels – Free to join at the basic level. Limited to about 10 to 20 free listings. Prints, canvases, greeting cards and more to add your art to.

Greeting Card Universe – Free to join, no upfront fees. Customers send requests to site about what they want in a greeting card. It gets listed on the forum for members to see. If you want to make a design for the idea, you create it to place in your shop then add the link on the forum post, the customer gets to pick which one(s) they like and the site owners let you know if you were picked or not. Meanwhile, any card designs you make that are approved can be added to your own individual card store. You can also make custom items if someone contacts you directly. Payment is every 3 to 4 months if you make $50 or more. Minimum earned per card is usually around 10 cents a sale.

Redbubble – No limit on designs. Lots of options with stickers, tees and more. There may be some tiers that are fee based currently.

Avery – The company most recognize as making printable sheets for your printers, they have an online shop to buy your art. I took part in a promo for 10 huge stickers (6 inches I think) and they came out BEAUTIFULLY! So if you need some good custom printing, this is your place.

I have no affiliate links for these sites unless you want to visit my personal pages to buy my art. I’d be ever so grateful. 🙂 https://linktr.ee/elledeegee

  • The lady who called about taking portraits wasn’t looking for me… apparently there is another artist in that group with my same name. (sigh) Figures… I have the most common name in the known world especially here in the south. Plus my only camera I can use to take decent pictures died as of Friday. 😦 Going to get my brother the whiz kid to look at it when I go home for the holidays.

Other than that, setting up my shops for holiday things and gifts. Please check my site out and go to the mercado section. I’m also going to try using some water color pencils and see what I can do with them. Been a while since I used traditional media.

I’m also playing with a makeshift loom and learning to do some weaving. I am getting the hang of weaving but tying it up in the end and making it stay tied is the trick. Anyone got any tips?

  • As those of you who know me fairly well know, I am a night person. Well I went to bed rather late last night and today was awoken by three separate calls I let the answering machine take. One was from someone who found me or is a member of SAVA and was asking if I did portrait photography.

My current digital camera is great but for professional prints it’s not the best camera to use when doing portraits or other nice things. I do have a have a SLR film camera which I used to take some model headshots a few years back at a Teen and Kid’s shoot through both “Austin Model and Talent Agency” and a local photography meet-up group. The pictures came out pretty good I think, for the amateur that I am, and I honestly wanted to take more shots but haven’t had the opportunity. I have tried to take shots of my cousin’s little girl over time although she wiggles around way too much for an 9 year old so most of my best shots of her are from when she was alot younger.

I’m going to call this individual back and see what kind of portraits they are looking for and if I can feasibly perform the function of professional photographer. Plus since I’ll be using actual film, I will have to take into account the cost of developing film, buying film, and having it turned into a photo disc among other things. I really love the ease of digital photography but to buy an SLR digi-cam is more than the film cam my brother bought me.

Honestly, I could really use this as a side thing if I can handle it. Would be a fun weekend venture I could try for much needed extra cash. I’ve even got my film camera with me at the moment at work but the batteries died so I’ve gotta get some film and batteries before I can think about doing anything else.

Anyhow… that was my first real art discussion on here that didn’t involve hawking a sale or otherwise advertising my digital illustrations. I’d really be happy to hear any opinions about this and maybe even a suggestion about fair pricing, etc. I never know what to charge for things but I don’t want to charge alot when I’m just starting out. I feel price should reflect the experience and worth of the work over time.

    What do you think?
