Beading frenzy

October 29, 2007

I don’t know what it is… maybe I’m just realizing I like hands on sorts of things and I miss that but I went to this Jewelry local meetup on Sunday and OMG!!! … I just so want to do this now! I went home and rested and did laundry and then got online and looked up all sorts of things concerning patterns and ways to do the Peyote Stitch. I had alot of fun learning that stitch and the instructor let us take the needles and such home after the lesson, so that was cool. I can actually practice. 😀

I’m just a bit disappointed with the designs I found online. They’re like bad bitmap images done in MSPaint. I was like “eeeew” I wouldnt’ make much less wear that design if I was paid to. A few patterns were really well done but I need to make my own stuff once I figure out how to get better and just get me a space to work in. I think I could make some cash off this if I tried. Maybe do some D’ni based designs or something. 😀

I’m going to look up beading online. See what sorts of beads they have and colors. I’m feeling a bit excited about looking stuff up about beading today. Not sure why. LOL

Do you like Sci-fi?

October 27, 2007

An online acquaintance of mine, Michael Penner wrote me today. Apparently he’s posted on Craig’s list about his new endeavor to help those who like Sci-fi (Science Fiction) writing and artistry get together with other likeminded people. He’s come up with a new site for those who would like to openly share, critique and otherwise join in the creation of new Sci-fi novels and art. The site is called “Nova Minds.”

I think it’s a great idea. I know in the past he wanted to have a place for people to post their art and stories for our own fan community if not beyond. He got busy as everyone does and now he’s been able to get back to his original idea to help share artistry and writings online. Those of us in the Myst fan community remember his association with both Cyan Worlds and Gordon Currie during the “Rivenguild” era. Mike created a number of fan songs that people still associate with Myst and those early days when URU wasn’t even yet in beta. He also posted quite a bit of 3D art on his old site back in the day. Those were good days. 😀

I’ll post a link to the associated sites for Nova Minds on my blogroll soon and art site.

That’s all the news for now!

Art rage (this is not a rant!) ;P

October 26, 2007

Japanese Pagoda 2007

No this is not the rage felt by a passionate artist upon finding their nearly finished work of art has been destroyed by a careless child, guest, pet etc etc…

Instead, this is the name of a shareware program you can use for free or buy called “Art Rage.” It’s actually very reminescent of Painter classic. I heard about this program again and went to their site and downloaded the shareware version. It’s very versatile and easy to use. I really like the feel that you are painting or using pastels or even air brushing. It’s a good little program to draw or doodle in. 😀

So these are some examples I did tonight in Artrage. If you want to see a larger view, check out my photobucket page.

That’s it for now.

Thanks for looking. 😀

New Photographs

October 19, 2007

I’ve posted some new shots from my camera at Flicker and Photobucket.

Check out the picture of the shelf fungi. I don’t know why but ever since I saw my brother carry some boombox sized pieces off a dead tree back to our old house we used to live in, I just always thought they were cool. I mean these things were like major! The ones in the picture don’t compare to the gigantic specimens my brother found back then.

I’m also a big fan of lichens if they’re pretty enough. I’ve gotten some nice pics of them around the dead tree in the apt complex and also from the campus when we could actually access the trees. I’ll have to find the pics and post them at Flickr. They’re really cool!

Anyhow, Enjoy!

Speaking of art…

October 16, 2007

I’m a huge fan of CGI type cartoons if they’re well made. My current fave which I found on Youtube is called “Minuscule.” It’s one of the cuter and better put together CGI cartoons I’ve seen combining real film with computer created creatures.

All the creatures in the short films are insects. The stories take a photograph out of an insect’s day and show what it might be like to be a spider, centipede or other creepy crawlie. The stories are told w/o much more than mood music, background sounds and some minor enhanced “sounds” from the critters themselves. Most of the instances tend to be rather ironic or a kind of “ah ha!” sort of moment when you get to the end.

One of my current faves for this series can be found here.

I also have a playlist of these as I find them on Youtube bookmarked under my userprofile there. I have a great many playlists of all sorts. Check out the playlists marked “Robot Carnival” and “Minna no Uta” if you like Anime. I especially like “starlight angel” from Robot Carnival and “Uchuhikoushino Uta (the astronaut’s song)” from Minna no Uta.

I guess that’s all for now. Check out my links for more stuff as I find it.

Greeting Card Universe…

October 10, 2007

I was directed to this site from another place I commonly put art at online.

GCU is actually a pretty nice site where artists post art for greeting cards that are for sale from the site. Artists get a discount for buying their own cards should they wish to do so. Also the site gets alot of feedback from visitors to what sorts of cards they are looking for which helps artists know what audience to make their art for.

I’m not familiar with the commissions yet as I haven’t had many clicks, sold any cards or added too many designs. I haven’t even really pushed my shop other than putting a link in my mercado section of my site. I was just curious mostly how it worked but I think in general I like sites like Zazzle and Cafepress just for the wider ranger of products you can design for.

Overall it’s a good site with an active community on it’s forums. I need to get more into forums but I have never been much of a forum person. I prefer the activeness of IMs, chatting, or email.

Check it out if you want to get your art on cards and sell it.

Virtual Tip Jar Drawing…

October 2, 2007

Well I guess it’s still early so this first drawing for a button didn’t work out.

Nobody sent in any donations and nobody won a free button.

These are nice buttons too! 😀 I’m going to add more soon to the site.

Anyhow, maybe this month people will donate and get in for a drawing on one of these purty buttons.
