I’m the kind of internet user who makes really different searches like “Japanese Scrapbooking” on Google to see what comes up. My main reason behind this seemingly odd “Asian” oriented search online was to find freebees like images and pictures they give away for use by visitors who patronize the site.
While searching on this particular subject of scrapbooking from Japan, I found a neat site called “Spoonflower.” They are a company out of North Carolina and currently in beta. They are what you might call a “diy” online fabric shop. So instead of going to say a box store and buying someone’s random fabric design, you can upload your own designs and have them randomized so that it creates a neat design. You could even just do a single repeat so it shows up enough per yard to make a doll design or puppet.
At the moment they do not let members sell to others for profit but on their site they do state they hope to allow that in the future. You can even get a swatch of fabric with your design to see how it would work for about $5. I’ve already added a few designs.
Check it out. It’s a neat site and I’ve already found some really nice designs by other people.

My regularly updated personal blog is down for those that know about it. I’m waiting for an update from the owner since I pay for that one… don’t ask me why but I like it and it’s cheap. So anyhow… until he fixes it so it says I did indeed pay for 6 more months… I’m keeping an aged whine over at LJ for those that know about that account.

I don’t think this qualifies as a real art contest, I think it’s more of a promotional site that pays for quality artworks.
Comozo Art Contest asks for illustrators and artists to send in their designs. Once received they judge either through the site (or other means) how popular a piece is and then award the chosen a limited print edition contract (200 in the edition) to print said artwork as a high quality canvas giclée prints. Chosen artist receives a set of 200 “certificates of authenticity” to sign and return for said artwork.
Sounds like a pretty good deal in my opinion and they seem to pay pretty well up to US $4600 or $3000 Euros. It’s a European site, I think french from the sound of it, and seems to be all and all legit. Heck who wouldn’t mind making up to that kind of cash from a sale of 200 limited edition prints?!? I know I wouldn’t mind much.

I was wondering that same thing when an online acquaintance referred me. I’m still a bit in the dark but I’m getting an inkling as to what the site is about.
Qassia.com appears to be an ad revenue sharing site that involves people joining up to share their personal sites and information on various topics. Every time you add a personal site (they insist you have permission to add sites) you get a certain percentage of virtual revenue to use to pay for your ads online. They also pass this along to any sites you may already have joined such as Google Adsense. The amount of hits and referrers (haven’t tried this bit yet) as well as how interesting people rate your original news articles that you’ve written adds up to virtual ad revenue from Qassia and is split as you decide between your listed pages. So far I’ve managed to acquire close to $450 Quassia dollars for ad revenue.
The site is still in Beta so I’m still trying to figure out exactly what their purpose is and how it works. They seem to be trying to run a kind of virtual advertising budget that helps to get people out in the forefront with help by their online peers and draw traffic to member sites through this same peer system. I just like seeing how things are and what they are for if they’re helping to advertise sites. Plus it’s free and you can quit when you like.
Check it out for yourself… don’t take my word for it.

Yep… this next year is the year of the rat. Apparently it’s my sign for the Chinese calendar despite most of the sites saying for some reason that I am an Ox (not literally, but you know what I mean :P)
So to celebrate the year of the rat, I drew this pic:
It’s for sale at my Zazzle shop. 😀 Check it out!
I hope everyone has a happy holidays and very merry new year!
